Brief Woodlands History:
Woodlands Enterprises Pty. Ltd was established in 1913 by Joseph Elks and Albert Sudlow as a strawberry and pineapple farm later branching into poultry. During the 50's the Elks Family with Joseph's son, Don's vision developed Woodlands to become a major participant in the Queensland Poultry Industry.
Don wanted Woodlands to be totally integrated thereby building a feedmill which produced not only chicken feed but cattle, pig, horse and other specialised feed requirements.
The Hatchery, also located at the head office in Beerwah, provides day old chicks for the many Woodlands' broiler farms seen in the Beerwah/Glasshouse area. Woodlands has also established its own poultry breeder and rearing farms located near Woodford and Elimbah. The recently enlarged hatchery produces upto 250 000 day old chickens per week.
Processing the large number of broilers takes place locally at Forest Glen Poultry and on a much larger scale at Golden Cockerel, Mt Cotton. Golden Cockerel is owned in partnership with Darwalla, another family owned company.
Woodlands is one of the largest suppliers of table eggs and barn eggs under the Sunny Queen name in Queensland and New South Wales. Freedom Barn Eggs and Mountain View Eggs are grown, processed and distributed at Mountain View, Beerburrum.
A large workshop is integral in the maintenance and mechanical upkeep of the large fleet of vehicles and equipment associated with such a diversified business. This workshop also manufactures and repairs all types of equipment for the feedmill and farms.
Woodlands has an agricultural property at Mt. Tyson, on the Darling Downs, which consists of a 180 sow piggery, grain production and cattle farming.
The Administration Office, which was the family homestead is located in Old Gympie Road on the same site as the original farm. Woodlands has been in operation for almost 100 years and is proud to have contributed to the growth of the local area providing income to many and producing products of quality.
